Span Foundation is proud to have been a key sponsor of the October 2025 Zabarvan Downhill MTB Series. Across Gulmarg, Shillong, and Guwahati, we witnessed remarkable talent, community energy, and the growing power of India’s mountain-sport movement — and we’re honoured to support it.

The trophies were based on local folklore and crafted by local artisans.

Three Tracks. Three Terrains. One Rising Movement.

October 2025 marked a breakthrough month for Zabarvan as the Downhill MTB Series travelled across three distinct landscapes — Gulmarg, Shillong, and Guwahati. Each race pushed riders into new terrain, new speeds, and a new definition of what downhill mountain biking in India can become.

GULMARG — The Alpine Descent (Draksheen Var)

The month opened in Gulmarg with high-altitude cold air, rocky drops, and fast technical sections carved into the autumn slopes.
Key highlights:

  • Steep, loose-rock descents near Kongdori
  • Strong youth participation despite challenging terrain
  • Riders tackling pre-winter conditions that demanded precision and control

Gulmarg’s raw mountain character set the tone for the whole series. What began as a community-led celebration of mountain sports and folklore has now transformed into a defining cultural moment in Kashmir’s outdoor calendar.

SHILLONG — The Pine Forest Drop Zone (Labasa’s Domain)

From Kashmir’s alpine line, the series shifted to Meghalaya’s dense pine forests and flowing but deceptively fast downhill tracks.
Notable moments:

  • Tight singletrack sections through the Shillong ridge forests
  • The highest spectator turnout of the series
  • Local riders delivering standout runs on home terrain

Shillong brought speed, rhythm, and an enthusiastic mountain-biking culture.

GUWAHATI — The Urban-Mountain Hybrid Run (Ngi Kham Thunder)

The final October event took place on Guwahati’s newly developed downhill zones, combining the city’s hills, exposed rock sections, and sharp elevation drops.
Race highlights:

  • High-speed sprints down Narengi and Khanapara slopes
  • First-time downhill racers from local cycling clubs
  • A dramatic finale with some of the fastest runs of the month

Guwahati wrapped up the October edition with adrenaline and a strong emerging DH community.

Three landscapes, three challenging downhill tracks — and a growing tribe of riders pushing Indian MTB to new heights.

The momentum is real.
The stories are building.
And the next chapter of Zabarvan’s downhill legacy has already begun and we are once again thrilled to have been associated with the first ever Downhill MTB Series in India.
